CR (Computed Radiography)
Good image quality
Multiple steps to image
Average price: $40 125K
DR (Direct Radiography)
Better image quality
Instant image
Average price: $75 259K
DR is represented by two major
technologies:
Flat-panel and CCD (Charge Coupled Device)
CR
Technology
Computed
radiography systems replace the film,
intensifying
screen and cassette used in traditional
radiography
systems with an imaging plate.
Additionally,
the film processor used in conventional
radiography
is replaced with a digital imaging reader.
The steps involved
in used CR technology are:
1.Imaging plate is placed in the bucky tray.
2.Exposure is made.
3.Plate is removed from bucky tray and placed
in imaging reader.
4. Image is captured and stored on PC.
5.Imaging plate is erased inside the reader
and ready to use again.
DR
Technology
Direct
radiography is where the conventional
radiographic
cassette and film are replaced with
a digital
imaging sensor.
The steps involved
in obtaining a DR image are:
1.The imaging sensor is exposed by x-rays.
2.An image appears on the computer screen.
3.
Your image
is immediately created. In
veterinary
medicine,
this advantage is enormous. Imagine if
you
could look
at a monitor to see if you needed to repeat
a radiograph
without letting the animal move!
